1,809 words; about a 9 minute read
Mission:
The Breen
Location: Khourani System
Timeline: After 'The Battle of Khourani (Part 3)'
Previously, on Star Trek: Myogi:
"Aren't those substations protecting the-!" Maho began.
And now, the conclusion:
The ship shook once again.
"We're running out of options, Captain!" Ichika insisted. "We've probably only got a few more minutes before the Iconians completely overwhelm us; if we stand any chance of accomplishing our mission parameters, we're going to have to make do with what we've got!"
More sparks rained down from the ceiling before Maho finally sighed in defeat.
"Alright:" She conceded. "Ops, signal all ships: Tell them to concentrate fire on the main foundry complex!"
"Broadcasting to the fleet, Ma'am." Ops replied.
"Make sure everyone's also ready to fly:" Maho ordered. "We may have to get out of here a lot faster than we came in if we set off that protomatter!"
"Shields are down to fifteen per cent," Kurumi reported. "They can take at most two more hits before they fail."
“I’ll just have to make sure we don’t get hit,” Jane called back, keeping them moving, trying to dodge Iconian shots.
[USS Oorai]
The Oorai rolled over to port, narrowly avoiding Herald weapons fire. Several smaller shots were easily deflected by the ships ablative armour as she doubled back and run full speed towards the Heralds surrounding the Myogi.
"Hana!" Miho called out from her command chair as the ship shook.
"I got it Captain," the tall slender black haired woman sat at tactical replied. "Get us a little closer..."
"Closer, aye." The other black haired woman replied at the helm. Lieutenant Mako Reizei was more than just a skilled pilot, she had been hand picked by Miho herself. Sge could do wonders with the Oorai, and often boasted that she could pilot pretty much anything.
The Oorai shook again as another Herald beam bounced off the ships armour. The fluffy brown haired woman stationed at the Engineering console turned to fave Miho. "We just lost a primary plasma conduit on deck two."
"Got it Yukari. Hana, any chance..." Miho saud as she looked over at her tactical officer.
"A little more..." Hana's eyes seemed locked on her screen. The Herald ship grew larger and karger on the viewscreen looming over the much smaller vessel. "Now!"
Bright orange phaser pulses erupted from the Oorais forward phaser cannons. They ripped right through the Heralds shields, cutting through the hull. In a .atter of seconds the Herald ship exploded in a glorious fireball. The Oorai zoomed through the wreckage to emerge out the other side of the fireball.
"Captain. The Myogi wants us to focus on the central foundry complex..." Saori reported from ops.
"Get me the Myogi." Miho replied simply.
[USS Myogi]
"We're being hailed by the Oorai, sir." Ops reported.
"On screen." Maho ordered.
The view switched to that of the Oorai's bridge.
"Tell me you've got a plan, Miho." Maho said. "We're taking a hell of a beating over here!"
Miho nodded. "I was thinking we could use an old trick from the Dominion War that we studied at the academy." She said. "Project a false warp signature on those Iconian ships, turn the weapons platforms against them."
Ichika's eyes suddenly lit up.
"Would it be at all possible for us to project that signature on a specified coordinate?" She inquired, realizing this could be played to their advantage.
"We could saturate their hull with charged warp particles." Miho suggested. "The Myogi should have enough to give it a shot. The Oorai can cover you whilst you attempt it?"
Ami nodded from her station, "We can vent the particles out the nacelles, best pattern would be on a flyby, but if I reverse the bussard flow, we can project out to say... Four kilometers?" She began to set up for either event, "We'll lose warp capability for a few minutes, though..."
Before Maho had a chance to respond, Ichika took the initiative.
"Mister Chihc, is there any way for us to scan the complex for large pockets of protomatter?" She asked, glancing over at the Intel station.
"Our long-range sensors should be powerful enough to detect protomatter stockpiles..." Chrirhc theorized.
"Then do it," Ichika ordered. "I want as precise a coordinate as possible."
"Activating long-range sensors..." Chrirhc replied.
The wait as the long-range sensors seemed a lot longer than it actually was as the Myogi continued to be pounded by Herald weapons fire.
"Got it!" Chrirhc shared his station to the main viewscreen, displaying a tactical view. "The largest protomatter stockpile is housed within and underneath that tower!"
A large tower on the facility's schematic suddenly illuminated blue.
"Miss Sinclair, prepare to execute a flyby of that tower," Ichika ordered as she settled back into her seat. "Miss Rori, on my command,"
Ami had already started the setup for venting the nacelle's containment reservoirs, now it was just a matter of waiting for the right time. She'd refine the vent angles up to the last moment for optimal usage. "Ready, Commander."
“Ready,” Jane said, fingers ready to engage the set course.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Commander..." Maho muttered, gripping her armrests.
"Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best," Ichika sighed. "Full Impulse speed, Miss Sinclair."
“Full impulse, aye!” Jane answered. The inertial dampers failed to keep up and everyone was pushed back in their seats as the Myogi headed not-quite-straight for the foundry tower. “Better hold onto something!”
"We're approaching the target:" Chrirhc reported. "T minus 10 seconds..."
"NOW!!!" Ichika shouted.
"Venting now." Ami slid the containment dial down and a mist that seemed to sparkle within began to spread out over the tower that had been targeted. Three seconds and then, "We're empty, ma'am." She slid the containment dial back up and hit the timer on her console, "Anytime... Rear shields are maxed out."
With baited breath, the bridge crew watched as the platforms slowly turned and began to concentrate their fire on the tower. The shields, already weakened from the earlier assault upon the substations, flickered for a second before failing completely, laying the structure bare to be completely and utterly eviscerated by weapons' fire.
"Oh my gosh, it's actually working!" Chisato gasped.
"Protomatter stockpiles are destabilizing." Chrirhc reported. "It's not a matter of if this thing will blow, but when."
"Get us out of here!" Maho ordered. "Maximum Warp!"
Ami looked up in horror towards the Captain, “We won’t have warp capability for another ninety to a hundred and twenty seconds, Captain!”
"You have less than sixty to get it to us, Lieutenant!" Chrirhc reported.
“I CAN’T!” Ami emphasized, trying to form the warp bubble despite her words, but the charged warp particles crucial for the formation were too diffused to promote it and the nascent bubble collapsed again and again while seconds ticked away. She knew there were two of her people in danger and she hit her comm, “Hikaru, Fred, get out of there, fast!”
“You can do it, Ami!” Jane said, encouragingly but under her breath. She wanted so much to help but she had her own task to focus on.
[USS Alita]
The last of the Alita's fighters touched down on her flight deck.
"Green Flight is in. We're good." Came the all-clear from the TIC to go to warp.
On the Alita's bridge, Misaki had watched the rest of the fleet make the jump to warp. The only ships left were her own and the Myogi, but something was wrong: The Myogi was still only traveling at impulse.
"What's the holdup, Myogi?" Misaki contacted the Myogi over ship-to-ship comms. "We've got less than 45 seconds to make the jump!"
"Unable, Alita." Came Maho's response. "We won't have warp capability in 45 seconds!"
"Understood. Hold on, Myogi: It's gonna be a rough ride." Misaki signed off, turning to her tactical officer. "Lock onto the Myogi with our tractor beam, and let's get out of here!"
"Deploying tractor beam..."
"Helm, once we've got Myogi in our tractor beam, maximum warp!" Misaki ordered.
With the Myogi in the Alita's tractor beam, the Alita jumped to warp, dragging the Myogi with it.
[USS Myogi]
The Myogi lurched violently as the Alita pulled it to warp. A lot harder and faster than usual when being towed to warp speed.
Ami watched the damage control screen as parts of the ship’s hull went from green to yellow, or yellow to orange, or worse: orange to red, including the entire damaged nacelle. “Captain, I think we just lost the port nacelle.” She announced.
"Are we at risk of the Alita pulling us apart?" Maho asked, not wanting to have to stop while they were still in Breen space.
"No, ma'am." Ami confirmed, "The nacelle strut was damaged and was undergoing repair." She checked for personnel in the area, then on the ship and two names were in red and a choked start came from her, "We lost two people with it. Hikaru Tama and Frederick Boley."
Jane couldn’t leave her station but wanted so much to hug her adoptive little sister. “I’m sorry,” she said. Then she cleared her throat and looked at the Captain. “Ma’am, I’ve managed to turn us so we’re pointed into the warp field. We’ve done everything possible to minimize hull stress.”
Maho gripped her armrest. Yet more people had been lost to this war.
"If anyone needs me, I'll be in my ready room." Maho declared, rising from her chair. "Commander Misono; the bridge is yours."
Now that it was confirmed that they weren't in danger of being pulled apart by the Alita, Maho would need to compile a report to Starfleet Command, as well as offer sympathy to the families of the engineers that had lost their lives...
Ami cycled through external viewpoints until she found the one that looked back past the saucer and sighed in relief, "Captain, the nacelle is still there. I'll go get it back online." Her voice was subdued, but work would help her out, she hoped.
